Achieving Success Together

Welcome

Headteacher: Mrs V. Campos

EYFS (Nursery and Reception Classes)

Our 2023/24 EYFS Curriculum

EYFS Curriculum

Intent

Our intent for our children is to be best equipped to tackle the challenges ahead as they move on to the next steps of their learning journey. We strongly value play and are advocates for learning through play and fighting to keep this alive in the EYFS and beyond. We value bringing a sense of awe and wonder to our children in order to inspire and motivate them. We intend for our children to develop their confidence and positivity of approach when taking on new challenges.

Implementation

We will achieve all of this by:

  • Providing a stimulating learning environment and responsive curriculum, tailored to the individual needs of the children and cohort.
  • Allowing the children to take the lead in their learning to develop problem solving skills and seek challenge.
  • Supporting the children to express their ideas and learn empathy for the ideas of others.
  • Providing learning and experiences that take into account the past experiences (or lack of) of our children in order to support and develop this.
  • Ensuring transition in and out of our setting are secure.

Impact

Our children will develop their characters and learning about friendship, equality and acceptance. This is measure not only in their learning but through behaviours and interactions with others. This will be seen in the way the children play and interact with each other and the adults at school. This is valued and discussed with our children. Our children will be ready for the next steps in their learning. Our nurturing approach allows us to build resilient and confident children, ready to tackle something new, who transition well to new settings or move up with us at Boxmoor. We value good outcomes for our EYFS children and ensure this through tracking our children carefully against the 7 areas of learning.

7 Areas of Learning

Staff plan activities and experiences that promote children's development and learning based on the ‘Development Matters in the Early Years Foundation Stage’ in the following key aspects:

Prime Areas:

Communication and Language

Personal, Social and Emotional Development

Physical Development

Specific Areas:

Understanding of the World

Expressive Arts and Design

Mathematics

Literacy

These 7 areas are used to plan your child’s learning and activities. The professionals teaching and supporting your child will make sure that the activities are suited to your child’s unique needs. We also look at the characteristics of effective learning which are playing and exploring, active learning and critical thinking.
