A Warm Welcome to Boxmoor Primary School from your Parents and Teachers Association

As a parent and carer, you are automatically a member of the PTA. We have gone from strength to strength over the last few years, and the PTA Committee works with a large and enthusiastic group of volunteers to support and enrich the time that your children have at Boxmoor. We are a mixed group of people from all walks of life who share common goals for our children and the school. Of course, one of our main aims is to raise essential funds for the school and the children, but the PTA is about so much more. We have focused upon raising our profile in the community, acting as ambassadors for our school, and creating real pride in the parents’ contribution to school life.

We run a number of regular and one-off events each year, aiming to interest both parents and children alike. However, we’re always looking for new ideas. Here’s a taster from this year.

• Fireworks Night. We are lucky to have a fantastic playing field with plenty of space, and we have hosted a professionally run display for the last couple of years.
• Quiz Night. Sponsored by Domino’s Pizza. Supported by a fantastic parent Quiz Master.
• School Disco. We provide discos for all year groups with a professional DJ.
• Film Night. Every term, the school hall is converted into our very own cinema.
• Summer Fair. Bouncy Castles, Pony Rides, Zorbing, BBQs, Coconut Shy and more.
• Golf Day. We have played at Redbourn and Stocks Golf Clubs in recent years.
• Christmas Fair. This is the big one, and very popular. Come and see Father Christmas in our very own Grotto.

In addition to this we also organise gifts for the children to buy and take home on Mothers’ Day, Fathers’ Day and other events. We co-ordinate working parties to do physical work around the school grounds (landscaping, painting, building – you name it!). We provide valuable resources for each year group and money for each teacher to spend as they see fit, to buy things the children wouldn’t otherwise be able to have. We have provided funds to support the purchase of equipment like iPads, and we cover the cost of less fortunate children and families to enable them go on school trips, and lots more.

None of this is possible without your support. Whether it’s baking a cake for our events, running a stall at the Christmas Fair, using your artistic expertise to craft a poster, or your very practical skills to build a bird hide or chop down a tree, every contribution you can make is enormously valuable to the school. We rely upon all of you.

We are a friendly group of people who like a laugh, and we raise funds while having as much fun as possible along the way. We are also very active on Facebook, and each year is ably supported by Year Reps to help coordinate our volunteers. It's hugely rewarding, makes an enormous difference, and you’ll make some life-long friends at the same time.
